Protest Songs

March 22 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The lyrical Michael Hersher will tell you the history of, and lead you in the singing of, old and new songs related to unions, immigration, peace, women’s rights, and class struggle. Michael will bring the words. You bring the spirit! (And if you can’t sing good, sing loud.) Michael worked for many years as a lawyer for the State of California on farm worker labor relations and public education. He ended up as a mediator for special education disputes. He has been a folk singer and political activist since the 60s, having grown up in a family of freethinkers and atheists. Michael’s parents were victims of McCarthyism in the 50s. In the last 40 years, Michael has performed and taught protest songs to comfort and inspire folks on picket lines, demonstrations, and in classrooms and places of worship.
